Summer elegance on the Alicante promenade: palm trees swaying, people in breezy dresses, and a charming white stuffed bear adding a touch of whimsy.

The Explanada de Alicante Promenade In the 19th century, due to busy maritime trade, the city needed a landmark space where Alicante residents could enjoy the sea and socialize. That’s when the idea of creating the Explanada de EspaƱa, which later became the heart of the city, was born. It stretches for almost a kilometer and a half, but what really makes it special is its mosaic floors that are made up of more than 6 million tiles. The unique design was inspired by the decorative sidewalks in Lisbon but in order to make it unique and to reflected the essence and history of Alicante - the Red Alicante was also added. The person tasked with this ambitious project was the Spanish artist Juan Antonio Pascual. With his talent and creativity, Pascual designed a pattern that represented elements characteristic of the Alicante culture and landscape: from the waves of the sea to the city’s traditional symbols, each detail of the mosaic tells a story and evokes a sense of belonging and local pride.
